Make. Do. And Mend…..

Making or upcycling your own stuff is not only a great way to be EcoFabulous  but is also a really satisfyingly creative and mindful way to spend your time.

I am really pleased to be teaching a number of different courses at both Sew in Brighton, Hove and The Friends Centre, Brighton.  Do have a browse; there’s bound to be something for you, whether you’re a beginner or experienced: from bags to bras, purses to pattern cutting and everything in between!

Make more of what makes you happy!

Bra Making Weekenders!

1-2 Dec 2018, 9-10 Feb (advanced), 9-10 March 2019

The Friends Centre, Brighton                      Sat & Sun, 10.30-4.30

Ever fancied making your own bras?  Then do join us on these Bra Making Weekenders when you’ll learn the techniques and skills to sew your own bras.

On Saturday we’ll introduce you to the fabrics, findings (all the trims and notions!) and techniques involved in making a bra.  Then you’ll measure, cut out and start sewing your own sample bra. With time to complete sewing your bra on the Sunday, you’ll then try it on for fit.

You will be taught how to make any necessary adjustments to fit and transfer these alterations to the pattern so you go home with your personalised bra pattern and the key skills, experience and inspiration to replicate in colours to match every outfit!

In this informative, colourful and interactive workshop you’ll discover the best styles, shapes, colours, patterns and fabrics for your body shape and proportions. Thank you for the really constructive workshop.  I knew some of the theory beforehand but putting it into action with a lovely group of women led to lots of lightbulb moments”

More Sewing, Worthing                                       10.30am-4.30pm

One of the most common fit problems I encounter when teaching at my various sewing classes is the bust, with most of us being larger than the pattern allows for!

In this workshop we’ll look at how to tissue fit a pattern to your shape and make the necessary pattern alterations so that whether a jacket, blouse or dress you’ll be able to apply this knowledge to all future sewing projects, confident that the result will fit you.

Clothes Swaps…              No more dates scheduled, keep checking back!

WALK IN WARDROBE Clothes Swap events

An EcoFabulous way to get a new-to-you wardrobe, these WALK IN WARDROBE events differ from Swishing and other clothes swaps in three important ways:

  1. There are no tokens or ‘like for like’ policy, so you can take home as much as you can wear!
  2. A qualified Personal Image Consultant is on hand to advise on the colours and styles best suited to you
  3. There are gorgeous homemade cakes and fizz to fortify you!

For the cost of your entry ticket, you’ll get to take home as many clothes, shoes and accessories as you want in exchange for donating some of your own unworn or unwanted items.

The most important thing for us is that items find themselves a loving new home and lease of life. Nothing donated is wasted: items not taken home on the day by happy guests are either left on the rails to await another event, or given to a local charity and jeans and leather are given over for upcycling.

As an added commitment to Slow Fashion, I donate to War on Want’s ‘Love Fashion-Hate Sweatshops‘ Campaign with every ticket bought.

“Just a short note to thank you and your lovely ladies for the event yesterday.  I got rid of things I wasn’t wearing and came away with a few really nice pieces that work well with my style and season.”
